Departments are delayed far more often by infrastructure and consumables than by the headline equipment. A checklist helps.
1. Confirm power and backup first
Imaging and theatre equipment have specific supply requirements and cannot tolerate interruption. Establish the supply, the backup arrangement and any isolation requirements before ordering.
2. Measure the room, including the route into it
Equipment that fits the room but not the corridor, lift or doorway is a recurring and avoidable problem. Check the delivery route as carefully as the installation space.
3. Price the consumables alongside the equipment
Monitors need cuffs, probes and electrodes; analysers need reagents. A device is only as available as its consumable stream, so establish the supply arrangement at purchase, not afterwards.
4. Ask about parts and service before you buy
Confirm what is covered, who responds, and whether spare parts are held in-country. A short warranty with local parts availability often beats a long warranty with none.
5. Plan the familiarisation
Equipment that clinical staff are not confident using ends up unused. Schedule familiarisation as part of the delivery, and repeat it after staff rotations.
